May I use an inspection robot in an Ex zone?

Only with ATEX or IECEx approval for the zone concerned. Most systems commonly available on the market have none.

There are exceptions: for individual systems, the manufacturers state a Zone 1 certification – for tracked systems as well as for at least one legged system. These devices are, however, priced considerably above standard systems. Information on individual models can be found in the robot database.

What counts is always the explosion protection document for your plant, not the general assessment of the type of plant. The certification must match the zone, the gas group and the temperature class – see guide to explosion protection.
